Gwen Wilkins, Nash County Commissioner released a statement following Conen Morgan’s passing;

Awoke this morning to disturbing & heartbreaking news. Conen Morgan (another one of a number who I’ve dubbed “son” over the years), political strategist & close confident from my very active days in the State Party, passed away in a boating accident in Beaufort. Trying to wrap my head around this news right now.
As William H. Clayton II so eloquently stated this morning, “He was engaged in fighting oppressive politics and policy. He was moving the needle. He was passionate about the quality of life for ALL people and his politics stemmed from this. There are some deaths that will have you looking up to God with the “side-eye”! THIS is definitely one. Thankfully I understand that God is not intimidated with our “side-eye”! So, somehow in faith I trust God, even when I do not understand God”.
To his wife, family & all who knew & loved him, hang tough. We’ll see him, again, one day on the other side.
