Gary Clemons Scotia, NY, Man body pulled from Mohawk River in Niskayuna, Obituary

Gary Clemons, 64 of Scotia NY passed away on May 22nd, 2023. Gary loved spending time with family, socializing with friends by a fire listening to music. he enjoyed taking his boat out on the Mohawk River and riding his Harley around the town. He will always be remembered as a respected and loved friend to many. He will be missed dearly.

Gary was identified as the man who fell off the dock of Mohawk River in Niskayuna on Monday this week. The incident happened near the Niskayuna Yacht Club.

Gary is predeceased by his parents Bruce and Alberta Clemons. He was survived by his girlfriend Susan Dziuba for over 20 years. Gary is also survived by his siblings (deceased Rob Clemons) Doreen, Brooke, and Ryan, Darlene (Russell) Zampella Zachary and Justin, Bryon (Donna) Clemons, and Kateri Clemons. A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer.

Cheyenne Willoughby, a Facebook user paid tributes to Gary Clemons on Friday, May 26, “How my heart aches. Spaghetti man. Gary Clemons . The fascinating MacGyver he was. The luck I had to have him be a part of my life growing up and my dad Kirk Willoughby for having him as a lifelong friend. As well as losing Rob Clemons his brother earlier this week, a guy who had been such a huge part of our community here in scotia has been such a sad week. Two amazing guys and brothers. Rest in peace to both of you.”

Shane Savage wrote, “I’m going to miss you uncle Gary Clemons. I will always cherish the times we had together and all of the wisdom you shared especially about how to fix lawnmowers and snowblowers. Till we meet again.”

Gary V. Clemons Sr, passed away quietly at his home on Saturday, February 25, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. Gary was born on March 5, 1948, in Hinton, West Virginia to parents Everett W. and Lena Mae (Hicks) Clemons. He moved to the Lake Milton area of Ohio when he was 5 years old and attended North Jackson High School graduating in 1968. He enjoyed skating, swimming, and boating at the lake.

Gary married Bonita Woodall of Austintown, Ohio on April 20, 1974, at Zion Lutheran Church, Youngstown, Ohio.

Gary leaves two sons, Gary Clemons ll ( Rachael Garland) and Seth Clemons, both from Austintown, Ohio; three grandchildren, Raven, Vivian, and Bronson Clemons; 2 brothers and 3 sisters; Cheryl ( Bruce) Murwin of Canfield, Ohio; Vicki Fannin of Canfield, Ohio; Tim ( Denise) Clemons of Pasco. WA, Paul ( Angela) Clemons of Lewisburg, W.V., and Carol ( Paul) Love of Lake Milton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Lena Clemons.

Gary worked for 30 years, from 1973-2003, for Ohio Turnpike Commission at the Canfield Maintenance Bldg.  He enjoyed going to flea markets, auto racing and visits to the Casino’s horse racing track with his Turnpike friends. He loved family gatherings that ended the day with barn fires and country music. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023, from 11am-1pm with Pastor Brian Daniels presiding  at Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, 3100 Canfield Rd, Youngstown, Ohio.
