Josiah Toleafoa, Chula Vista Boy Hit, Killed by Car on 3rd Birthday, According to Family

When tragedy struck, Josiah Toleafoa was en route to Play City to go climbing and sliding and celebrate his third birthday with other kids. An automobile struck and killed the toddler at the Play City parking lot, a kid-friendly indoor party location off Showroom Place. Josiah tragically passed on May 27, 2023, in Chula Vista, CA.

Josiah’s mother reportedly sobbed frantically as police and paramedics fought to save her child, according to a witness who asked to remain anonymous. Their attempts were unsuccessful. At Rady Children’s Hospital, Josiah passed away.

The car’s 36-year-old driver, according to Chula Vista police, was cooperative and remained at the site. According to CVPD, there was no indication that the collision was caused by drugs or alcohol.

Family members took to social media and created two GoFundMe pages to raise money for Josiah’s funeral. They described the boy as sweet and lovable.

“JOSIAH brought the family together- his incredible SMILE, LOVING HEART simply brought JOY to any room. There was no time to see him do amazing things. I KNOW HE WOULD HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD,” wrote a woman who said she was the boy’s aunt.

She added that the loss of Josiah had crushed the family. The proprietor of Play City verified that $2,000 will be given to Josiah’s family. He said that his landlord will equal that sum.
