About Oak Park
In Cook County, Illinois, close to Chicago, there is a community called Oak Park. According to the estimated population from the 2020 U.S. Census, it is the 26th-most populous municipality in Illinois with 54,583 residents. After separating from Cicero, Oak Park was first established in 1835 and later incorporated in 1902. Sharing Oak Park and River Forest High School, it is closely related to the Illinois tiny town of River Forest.
Frank Lloyd Wright, an architect, and his wife moved to Oak Park in 1889. His work had a significant impact on the neighborhood’s architecture and design, notably the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio. Railroads and street cars that connected the community to jobs in nearby Chicago over time sped up development.
With 80% or greater voter turnout in each presidential election since 2000, Oak Park is still known for its socially liberal policies today while maintaining its ethnic diversity. The Green Line and Blue Line “L” train lines of the Chicago Transit Authority, as well as the Metra Oak Park station downtown, provide Oak Park with direct access to Chicago.
