A 19-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle collision early on Sunday at the intersection of Common and Bienville streets, according to officials.
According to Lt. Jeff Keenum, a police spokesperson, the crash was reported to Lake Charles police at 3:29 a.m. When the police arrived, they found out that one of the drivers, Kara Lemons, 19, of Lake Charles, had passed away from her wounds.
The family has set up a GoFundMe to assist with funeral costs.
The principal investigator is Sgt. Shaun Touchet from the Traffic Division of the Lake Charles Police Department.
Results from Standard Toxicology are still awaited, Keenum said.
Kara was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles, born December 11, 2003. She was a 2022 honors graduate of Barbe High School and studied at McNeese State University where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She was currently working as a server at the pools of L ‘Auberge Casino Resort and was planning to apply to Cosmetology school with ambitions of owning her own salon.
She always liked to dress up: hair, nails, all things “girly” and found joy in making up her younger sisters so that they felt special too. Kara took great pride in being a big sister and being a 2nd mom to her younger siblings. She also enjoyed gymnastics, dance and loved swimming and sunshine. Kara loved life! She was a bright, happy spirit with a welcoming heart and a beautiful smile. She will be dearly missed.
